Education
I earned my Doctor in Veterinary Medicine in the University of Chile. I've been doing research since then, and decided to come to the US to get a PhD degree in Animal Behavior so I could eventually become a professor, since science and education are my passion.
Experience
I have a lot of experience as a teaching assistant in several courses in both University of Chile and UC Davis, including Animal Behavior, Biochemistry, Biology, Neuroscience, and Physiology. As a TA, I've learned how to successfully engage students by communicating ideas in a straightforward way. I've also learned to give oral lectures in both classroom and lab, come up with useful lecture materials, deal with different personalities, and work with large groups of students. I also worked as a tutor for kids, and as a babysitter during high school. In order to get my DVM And PhD candidacy at UC Davis, I've had to take several courses and multiple exams (and do very well!). Some of the areas covered have been math, (written and spoken) english, biology, physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, statistics, pharmacology, evolution, and genetics. I have a strong background that not only has allowed me to increase my general knowledge, but also, and overall, taught me how to learn, and how to think critically. These are the two main concepts I like to transmit to my students.
