Working with young people for over 7 years, I tutor in many areas but my favorites are English, science, and history. I also provide students with homework help, organization skills, and test prep for exams such as the PSAT and SAT. Tutoring history and English are great because I can have a conversation that helps both the student and me learn. I always try to get to know the student when I meet them, learn their interests, and pinpoint what they're having trouble with. These leverage points enable me to help build good study habits and find new strategies so they get better at their schoolwork. I think anyone can be successful in school, but some people learn differently and need a custom plan.Self-sufficiency and passion must be developed as well, along with the skills to accomplish one's goals in school. I didn't realize I wanted to teach until college, and recently graduated with a double B.A. in Environmental Studies and Studio Art from the University of Vermont. I've been working in outdoor education and other alternative learning settings, but becoming a classroom teacher is something I am considering. Otherwise, I like to knit, hike, and go biking and swimming.
