Private tutor in Davis, CA

Education

I currently am attending the University of California, Davis as a English and Statistics double major. I currently have my AA's in English and Liberal Arts and Cultures. My GPA is a 3.30.

Experience

I was a tutor at Sierra College in Rocklin for the last 2 1/2 years. I also have my level 1 tutoring certification. As a tutor on campus, I assisted my fellow students in many subjects. I began tutoring for the college my third semester and find it very rewarding and beneficial to me. I love being a tutor; not only do my students learn from me, I learn from them as well. This job allows me to be an asset for students as I help them be successful in college, and I want nothing more than for my students to be successful. Since becoming a tutor, I have developed a personal connection with many students who will always be my friends, but also it has helped me become closer to the student body as a whole. Given such, I have grown in wanting to give back to the community through positively touching the student's life, by making the learning process more interesting, and producing morally and socially upright individuals into our community. When I tutor, I gain a firmer understanding, more exposure to and reinforcement of the material with those particular subjects. Students come to me for academic help, but I also assist them in finding other resources on campus to help them be successful in every area of life. My experience as a tutor has been inspiring, motivating, and uplifting. It has helped me to grow as a person and encouraged me to work harder. When a student comes back for a second time, I feel I must have done something right in helping that student. When a student tells me how much they appreciate me in taking the time to help them and telling me that something I have explained has been helpful, it makes me feel like my time is worthwhile to them and that I have accomplished my goal in helping them succeed. Teaching is my passion as it is what I love to do. I very much enjoy the interaction I have with students because I would like to teach in the future.

Hobbies

Most of my experiences are before I transferred to Davis. The first Newspaper I was a part of was my senior year of high school. I was a regular reporter for the first few issues till I became the Photo Editor for the remainder of the school year. During my years at Sierra, I had the greatest time being involved in many different clubs and serving as an officer to several of them. Every semester till I transferred, I wrote for the Sierra Independent Press and I served as their Public Relations Officer for the 2012-13 academic year. For the 2013-14 academic year I was the Associate Editor. My second semester at Sierra, I served as the Associate Editor for the Sierra Journal, an annual literary publication. In 2012-13 academic year, I served as Editor in Chief. I have also been involved in the following campus clubs: STOP (Students Taking On Poverty), Beyond Diversity, World Impact, First Year Experience, and Tutoring Club. Being involved in so many clubs, coupled with my outside jobs and school workload, I have become very skilled in time management. I always make time to do my homework and study, but I have also learned to allot time for extracurricular activities on and off campus, as well as spend quality time with family and friends. The past academic year I have serve on The Associated Students of Sierra College, first coming on as a Student Senator and then became Director of Programs.
